Over and over I hear politicians say that immigrants need to apply for asylum before reaching the U.S. border.
I've never heard any story on is that even possible. How many embassies and consulates respond in a timely manner to requests.
My experience with several embassies is "timely manner" can be days, weeks and months if ever.
What about the asylum-seeker is in danger from situations in their country that many times, the U.S. could have helped create with their policies? Can s/he wait or would his/her corpse have rotted long before the U.S. government thinks about responding to their request.
So, if you are a reporter, news station, newspaper or social media please, please investigate how in each Latin American country and asylum seeker would be treated if at all.
