They lie

Who lies?

Well maybe they are just mistaken, but those who say that today's linked in world keeps people from communicating are just plain wrong.

Yesterday I had the most wonderful day because of facebook.

I met Ginger Dawn

Who is she? A woman from Virginia who does book reviews in a fast moving on-line radio show once a week. Tune in...she's fun.

She connected on-line with my writing mate, Sylvia Petter who lives in Vienna, Austria. In turn that led Ginger to the Geneva Writers Group  and Peter St. John Dawe which was why I had a wonderful day.

Peter invited Ginger and her family to stay with him in France. He arranged for her to meet other people on Saturday night but I was going to be in London.

Thus, he suggested we get together for lunch. We were all to meet at the Place du Bourg-de-Four, the heart of Old Town Geneva. Yes, yes and more yes.

What a surprise when after a good hello hug with Ginger and a more sedate three-cheek kiss with her husband and Peter and a smile to her 10 year old son, Peter said we were taking a lake lunch time cruise on a paddleship

The menu was risotto with shrimp and mushrooms but even better was the conversation and getting to know someone face to face. We sailed past the dock near my home, but even if I could swim to my house, I wouldn't have wanted to miss this precious time with interesting, intelligent, warm, friendly people.

After we finished and docked, there was a bit of swan feeding. A mere crumb of bread thrown into the water and the word goes out and swans from all over the lake skid into feeding position.

Still not wanting the moment to end we took the little tourist train along the lake front, where I learned a bit more about my city.

So, to those that say people don't communicate because of things like facebook, they are wrong. Even if Ginger, et.al. had not come to Europe to meet up with people, we share parts of our lives and passions via the internet.

Without it, there would have been no US-Austria-Switzerland-France connection.

Go Facebook for that reason alone.
