“Harold Albert Crenshaw of Springfield died at this home 31 October surrounded by his family and friends all of whom wished he had died years before. He was 72
“Crenshaw was CEO of Multiple Industries, all of which exploited his employees. He fought against the unions at every opportunity. He never went public with any of his companies, so he could keep complete control of his businessesNov. 1 Obituary.
“At his bedside was Jackson Pullen, his chief lobbyist who did everything in his power to stop any safety regulation for any of his companies.
“Also attending were his wife of 41 years and several of his mistresses.
“Frank Patrone, the Mayor or Springfield, Congressmen Abe Feingold and Jackie Watson as well as Senators Tom Hatchette and Judith Levinson attended to express their sadness that the bribes will now end.”
Marion Crenshaw, the widow, sat on a folding chair in front of the open casket. She looked at her son. “Did you write this?”
“Yes, but I must have sent it in place of the real one. I’m so sorry, Mother.
Marion smiled. “Don’t be. If you can’t speak the truth at the end of his life, when can we?”
