One of the joys driving through New England and Southern Quebec last month was the red leaves. When I moved to Switzerland, everyone told me how beautiful the autumn was. Compared to New England, the yellows, although lovely, were not comparable to the reds of my childhood.
Although I may never see another New England fall, I have it now in my memory bank.
Going into the pharmacy I saw one red leaf on the stairs. I picked it up to show J, who was waiting for me in the car.
We brought it home and gave it a place of honour on the table.
Beauty, however simple, should be celebrated even if it is one red leaf.
