Horrible socialised medicine

Rick had something stuck in his ear from his hearing aid.

The cabinet for nurses was closed but as we walked by a doctor's office we took a chance he could be seen. After a very short time in the waiting room we were called in.

The doctor's English was perfect, eliminating my use as a translator. (After doing so much of my medical care in French, it is still a joy to deal with doctors in my mother tongue)

The doctor removed the piece of his broken off hearing aid and gave prescriptions for the infection, plus another where Rick had run low.

Cost 23 Euros or US$31

Off to the pharmacy where there was a longer wait than the doctors.

Four prescriptions were filled, one of which in the US would have cost Rick $90 or more.

Total cost in Euros 34 or US$46.

We were given the brown and white form from the doctor that every pharmacy and doctor uses for a national computerized system.

Rick is not yet in the system. Were he in it, his contribution would have been 10%.

I am sure he will have comments on the experience as soon as he stops being amazed.

Horrible this socialized medicine. Even for those uninsured.
