Touching history with a bit of the modern

Rick is sitting in the Roman amphitheater build in Avenches, which was the capital of the Roman district. About 2,000 Romans were said to have lived there and probably sat exactly on exactly the same spot. The stone for the theatre was dug out from the other side of Lake Neuchâtel and transported by horse drawn cart.
The amphitheater is still used today, although some of the ancient stone seats have been replaced with plastic. I can attest after several operas, both are painful to the bum, especially after a long performance. When we were there it was after the opera festival and they were preparing for a rock festival.

This abbey, located in Payerne CH, was founded in the mid 900s by Queen Beatrice of the Royal House of Burgandy.
Rick pointed out there was something incongruous about having a Dyson hand blower in a building that went back to a time when years were numbered with three digits, not four.
Very old, old and modern all mixed together. Life goes on and on and on...

I lovet that architecture and the journey from Roman through to modern! Not sure about the choice of a hand drier though. Surely there was a satellite phone box nearby... ;~)
