Art is in the eye of the beholder

One of my neighbours, an artist, created this work of art. I have to admit I prefer his paintings. 

Rick, probably inspired by all the art around us up and down the street and around the corners, created this sculpture. 

How did he do it? Instead of using the base to warm water in my electric tea kettle, he tried it directly on the burner. He thinks it could double as a Darth Vader mask. http://lovinglifeineurope.blogspot.fr/ may contain his version of his creative endeavors...

Earlier in the year he tried another piece of art by melting my radiator. 

I do want to encourage his artistic side, but I'm a little worried. He's staring at the TV and it is off.
