Liar? Ignorant? Both?

 

When Trump, in his fight to stop mail-in voting, said that no country had mailed-in voting, he was lying or ignorant. It's not hard to find out the truth or facts. Trump didn't have to do it himself, he could have asked one of his minions to look it up.

• Total Countries with Mail-In Voting: 34 countries allow some form of mail-in voting.
• Universal Mail-In Voting: 12 countries permit all voters to vote by mail.
• Limited Mail-In Voting: 22 countries allow mail-in voting for specific groups or under certain conditions. 

My country Switzerland votes four times a year at least on petitions and on disagreement with parliament's decisions. They also elect government officials by mail-in voting.

First no registration is necessary. The day I took my oath to become Swiss, I was handed my first voting package which was in French since Geneva is a French canton.

The package is brilliant. They are printed in French, German, Italian, Romanish, the countries four official languages. A cartoon of the package is above. 

• The envelope is double usage - to the voter and then back to the polling station. 
• A registration card with my number, a place for my birth date and signature.
• A ballot
• An envelope to be sealed with the ballot inside.
• A booklet with the proposed law, pros and cons, and a list of how the many parties support each issue. Depending on how many issues and the complications, it can take anywhere from an hour or all afternoon to read.

Even though a majority of voters use mail-ins, the polling places in each town are open for about three hours on voting day. When I voted in person the first time I brought my ballot in person already in its envelope.

My neighbor, one of the four poll workers, told me to go in the booth and make sure of what I wanted, then come out and have a coffee and a croissant with the poll workers. Because most people vote by mail, the polling places seldom have lines. 

Results usually are reported by 4 p.m. at the earliest but normally it is all over by 7 p.m. 

I don't believe that Trump really wants anything but to make sure that people who will vote for him and/or his policies vote. I'll vote that he is both a liar and ignorant.
