In telling me about my editor's death, Gordon Aalborg's sister called him a "curmudgeon and opinionated" and I would add grump.
He was a journalist, editor, photographer, columnist in Canada and Australia. His published books included romances under the name Victoria Gordon and westerns.
He didn't like my use of commas and was quick to say change this or that or that or this. Move that paragraph or cut it entirely. Most of the time he was right. I'm sure he'd have suggestions on how to make this obit better.
We shared an age and sometimes exchanged emails just because. We also shared a dislike of physical limitations, stupidity and bad writing.
Even if he was a curmudgeon, opinionated grump, he was authentic, something that is rarer and rarer. My books were stronger because of him.
