Voting for Money

Since I moved to Switzerland in 1990, the money bill design has changed several times, but the colors for the denominations have remained the same. Designs have featured many things including artists and other famous people.

One blue bill for 100 CHF was so beautiful I was tempted to frame it, but 100 CHF was just too much money to not have put into my working budget.

A new change in the money is coming.

The Consulate General of Switzerland in New York sent via Facebook yet another change with 12 proposed designs, two of which are shown above.

Twelve teams were selected from some 300 applicants. The theme is Switzerland and its altitudes featuring the country's landscapes. The winner will be announced next year with the new money scheduled for circulation in 2030.

We were asked to vote in a survey before 7 September 2025. The results will be announced next month.

Each morning I wake and see how my birth country is disintegrating a bit more under Trump. My new country since 2006 lets me vote four times a year on referendums and initiatives.

And no, it is not perfect. There are still some (not the majority) stupid and greedy politicians, but the system is set up in such a way that it works far more than it doesn't.

One of the nicest things is that the Swiss presidency is only for one year and comes from the seven rotating cabinet members. The president keeps his/her cabinet responsibilities.

I mourn for my birth country. I mourn I have family living there. I mourn for the good parts of the United States that the chance of ever obtaining them again decreases with each day. I fear for the chaos. When I'm not mourning, I'm angry that this happened.

I checked out the website. Monday, when I have more time, I will take the survey, happy that I can have a tiny, tiny, tiny, tiny, tiny say in my country's money design as I have had in so many other issues from retirement age, plane purchase, health insurance and other issues about life that affects all my fellow citizens.
