"Wanta go people watching?" Rick often asks when he brings Sherlock back from their afternoon walk.
We will amble down to one of our favorite tea rooms, sip our tea and hot chocolate. The ex-model, now elderly, looks out her first floor (2nd American) window along with one of her cats. Parents walk home after meeting their grade school children.
Sunday, I did the early morning walk with Sherlock and Rick. Rather than go home we stopped at Bronzette for croissants and tea.
At that early hour there were no people to watch, but there were four pigeons pecking at almost invisible crumbs. I named them:
- Darrth Vader - almost all black
- The Gray Ghost -beautiful shades of gray
- The Vamp - white with a number of black feathers
- The Virgin - almost all white.
Darth Vader was the alpha pigeon chasing the Virgin away from the crumb area repeatedly. (I'm guessing at gender based on behavior). The other pigeons acted equally macho.
The Virgin would saunter into the crumb zone only to be repulsed by the gang.
I threw a few tiny pieces of my croissant at a distance to where the Virgin had a chance. The other pigeons weren't going to let her have a share. She was over run by the other three.
I threw other croissant pieces so everyone had a chance, including the Virgin, but she stayed off to the side increasing her chances of a good French breakfast.
Other pigeons arrived and it became impossible to see who was winning the Great Crumb Battle.
