News Outside The U.S.

Anyone who really wants to know what is going on in the world against what is said to be going on in the U.S. should check news in multi countries.

Without this checking, viewpoints swim in political party bias of U.S. news sources. For just one example, Trump's statements on how the U.S. is respected again, are quickly debunked.

The last few days, however, no matter what station I flip on, I felt I was watching mainly U.S. news.

However, almost all the news was U.S. based including reports from France, Germany, The Middle East, UK. I felt as if I was watching CNN, ABC, etc. The stories were:

  1. The major storm that is covering a good part of the U.S. With Rick's daughter in TX and mine in MA, we seldom have an event that effects both women at the same time.
  2. The murder in Minneapolis and the variation between the videos of the killing by ICE and government lies.

Where do I find international news?

  • https://inkdrop.net/news/africa-general/
  • https://www.nationsonline.org/oneworld/countries_of_the_world.htm
  • https://www.globalfreetv.com/countries/france

That is NOT to say, international stations are bias free. But if you see what an English channel emphasizes in comparison to a French or a German one, it is worthy of thought ... what really is the truth?

Also as a writer, word choice makes a difference. If the station (or newspaper article) is a translation, I have to consider the proficiency of the translator. When I write French, for example, I'm thrilled when I get it all down and people understand. When I write in English, the weight, color, history of the word as well as regionalisms make a difference.

No, I don't spend 24/7 searching news sources, but I do spend enough time to make sure I'm an informed citizen not handicapped by bubble living.

Note: If I want to check on the stats for a particular country I've found the CIA Fact Book helpful. https://www.cia.gov/the-world-factbook/
