The Rebel Cuckoo Clock

Our cuckoo clock is continuing its rebel behavior.

I have no problem with it shutting off during the night, but the clock "wakes" at different times.

A couple of days ago, it woke at 7 a.m. But then yesterday it waited until 9:00 a.m. This morning the clock "slept in" until 11.

The different songs play after the figures come out and do their little dances as they should and it is also exactly on the hour. The music can be a hymn or even an American classic like "Oh my darling, Clementine." I have not matched times to the songs.

My husband and I also debate the number of cuckoos for each hour. He says the 1 pm. cuckoo cuckoo and the 2 p.m. cuckoo, cuckoo, cuckoo, cuckoo is an echo. I maintain it's double the time it should be. I don't want to have to count 18 cuckoos and divide by two to decide if it is 9.

As I write this, the cuckoo just chimed 24 times (me) and 12 times with echo (Rick). The little dog is watching the man saw wood for the basket. The water wheel is stilled.

I suppose, I could get it tuned so the cuckcoo cuckcooed correctly, but considering I always was a tiny bit of rebel as my husband was/is, it seems the clock find the right home.
