The three Free Writers met today. It was the 131st time we've met, either in person or over the internet since we're often in different countries. When we are in different places, we take turns sending a prompt, a photo or sentence via email. In person we select a "victim" and write for ten minutes without changing anything.
Today, the café was almost empty. We were later than usual and one day later because of misc. have-to-dos yesterday.
Julia offered three prompts, two photos one sentence. We chose the man having breakfast in a Swiss German hotel.

An absolutely glorious day perfect temperature and a light breeze.
He could get used to this, he thought.
Lately life had been a bit difficult. His wife had decided that she “needed” her freedom. Their young children were very upset as they couldn’t understand why they couldn’t have both parents at the same time and he was having to lie and say that they had agreed on the separation.
At least he still had a roof over his head and a job he loved.
One of the very few – and he had to look hard – advantages was that he could occasionally leave on his own for a night or two and go hiking.
The hotel was one that he had been to with family so the rooms, the facilities were not unfamiliar.
Looking out at the natural beauty that surrounded hi mitigated for a few hours the loss of his family life.
He’d bring his sons back one day.

Matt was glad he came, but when his boss said he had to go to Zurich, he hadn't wanted to go. He hated flying, and it was a ten-hour flight.
His company insisted he get a passport. Matt had never wanted to leave the good old USA.
The first thing that amazed him was the Zurich tram system.
The second thing was it was a three-day weekend and everything was closed.
"Get out of town," Emily said. "Nothing will be open. It's our national holiday."
So here he was looking at beautiful mountains. He was used to just flatness.
Maybe he would try a hike after the great breakfast buffet with its weird meats and cheeses. Imagine butter labeled salted and sweet.
Who knew?
His waiter had switched from German to English for him. Then he heard him speak French and he thought Italian to other guests. Wow. .
Granted, maybe the world was bigger than he thought.

No one on the hotel staff remembered seeing him before. And it was unusual for a lone male traveler to book into a place in the mountains. Even the hikers tended to come through in pairs or small groups.
He was pleasant enough. Polite. Neat. But kept to himself. Either looking at his phone or sipping his chocolate chaud.
According to the front desk receptionist he traveled quite light. Just a small backpack. No walking sticks. No timber boots. What could he possibly be doing in a place best known for retirees?
At the conclusion of breakfast, after Marie had cleared the dishes away, maître d' Henri decided to approach the young man.
“Jeff,” he said his name was. From some place in California. (Well, that fit the tanned casual look.)
“And may I inquire as to your business here, sir?”
“Well,” responded Jeff, laying a 20-Franc tip on the table, “I’m the new owner of the hotel.
