There are all kinds of monthly payment adopt a...programs: animals, children in other countries, highways, trees... Donors make regular monthly contributions. They are given things like a toy, progress reports...it varies.
Being an artist of any kind, painter, writer, musician can be a poverty-creating life.
Wouldn't be nice to have a charity called, Adopt an Artist. Donors could decide which art form and then which artist.
Benefits could include regular updates on the artist and reduced prices on their books, poems, songs, videos, paintings, sculptures, sneak previews of work, entrance to exhibitions and readings.
When I last checked James' site he had 25 patrons.
Donations can be as little as $1 a month, but certainly a starving writer would be happy with 10, 15, 50 or more in whatever currency one wants.
