What's in a Name?

Doris Miller (1919- 1943) Cook Petty Office First Class U.S. Navy

Without training and without orders he grabbed a gun and shot down Japanese planes during the attack on Pearl Harbor.

He carried wounded sailors to safety under fire.

Miller was listed as missing in action after a Japanese submarine fires four torpedoes sunk his ship Liscome Bay one year after Pearl Harbor.

He received the Navy Cross, the second highest military decoration for heroism.  Despite nominations for the Medal of Honor, Secretary of the Navy Frank Knox who didn't believe Negroes should serve in the Navy, recommended he not receive it. This nomination is being reconsidered now.

The fourth Gerald R. Ford-class aircraft carrier, now under construction was to bear his name when it is commissioned in 2034.

At the announcement Trump mentioned how his name should be on a naval ship. Now, there is talk of NOT putting Miller's name on the ship but Trump's.

Really?

Compare their lives:

Donald Trump (1946- )

Felon list of 34 indictments on falsifying business records

Discrimination against Negro renters

Impeached twice

Found libel of sexual abuse and defamation and ordered to pay $5million to his victim

88 criminal charges of trying to over turn an election

Accused of pedophilia

His military record compared to Miller's - avoidance.

He has destroyed national property such as part of the White House, the Rose Garden, and wants to destroy other property by painting stone that shouldn't be painted.

Illegally accepted gifts and money for pardons and contracts

***

Shakespeare wrote "What's in a name? That which we call a rose by any other names would smell as sweet."

America claims to honor its military.

Miller, because he was black was not allowed full status in the military in his lifetime.

Despite the lesser status, that did not stop Miller (and other Negro servicemen) from offering their lives. Miller went above and beyond that duty during the Pearl Harbor attack.

He died almost a year after Pearl Harbor on 24 November 1943.

Trump's name is plastered on everything he can possibly plaster it on.

What sickness makes him do this?

Trump's name is ugly, certainly not sweet, but representing the destruction of the country he is supposed to head. It doesn't deserve to be on a naval ship, especially in place of someone who deserves it. Not on the ship designated for Miller or any ship. That honor should go to those who haven't harmed the United States.

Trump would like his name in several revered places. Mentally he is a child. Lorraine
