It was an almost hot June day in Normandy. The sky was a brilliant blue, the well-trimmed grass green. A few people walked through the cemetery, but the only sound was birdsong. The white crosses went on and on. Each one had the name of the person
buried, usually young men not even into their mid twenties.
Earlier that day I had seen a film of soldiers in full gear on a boat. Their faces were grim as D-Day was about to begin. I'm sure many, if not all, were now under those crosses. They had given their lives to defeat Hitler, to protect their own country.
Those that survived went home to wives, children, parents. They would use the GI Bill to get an education and build careers that benefited themselves, their families and the country. I've heard so many children, grandchildren and great grandchildren of the men who fought in WWII say those former soldiers didn't want to talk about the war.
Did the soldiers in WWII die for nothing? The few decades after the war ended, were some of the most prosperous in U.S. history, not just in money, but quality of life. Progress was made for minorities even though there is still work to be done.
What would all those soldiers, those that died in Normandy and those that made it home, think when they see the country they fought for being torn apart by a demented president, unelected shadow president, corrupt officials who are too afraid to fight back? How would they feel when program after program was being destroying reducing the quality of life of their grandchildren and great grandchildren? Those who would have remembered the Great Depression, how would they feel to see the FDIC, created in their lifetimes to protect citizens savings, be hollowed out? How would they feel to see programs for the ordinary citizens be stripped?
I ask again - did they die for nothing?
Yes!
If the takeover of the U.S. government isn't stopped, they will have sacrificed their lives for nothing.
Call and email congress. Protest. Fight back.
This artwork was near the American Cemetery in Normandy. One way to peace to make sure that the American government is legitimate. What is happening now, it is being taken over little by little. Sorta like Hitler did and with a president who talks about taking over other countries, war could be next.
