Kia destroyed my New Year's

We got up a little after 5 to watch CNN coverage of the ball dropping in Times Square. We live in France who had it's new year moment six hours before.

Snuggled on the couch under furry blankets the countdown began.

I know, I know it is childish to be this excited, but this year the idea of a new start was even more thrilling. In reality I know the virus isn't going to magically disappear and the shutdowns, masks and the lack of hugs will still be there.

The ball started to descend. It only went a few centimeters on my screen and then it disappeared behind a Kia ad.

MEGA SHIT!

How dare they. I don't know if it was Kia or CNN or both are responsible for that travesty. There were other ads too destroying the view.

A pox on all their houses. May 2021 be the worse sales year ever. May all your products need recalls.

Part II was equally bad...

There was a beautiful rendition of "America the Beautiful" when it came to the words "From Sea to Shining Sea" there was a panning of all the Times Squares screens that advertises just about everything...not a bit of sand, not a wave, not a bit of foam.

Maybe that is an analogy of what America has become -- just brands to buy. Those brands replace the shining seas.

We crawled back into our cozy bed to cuddle and enjoy a brand-free day.
