The Chandelier

Stepping inside the Adirondack Trust in Saratoga Springs NY was like stepping back in time with its marble, mahogany and over-sized vault. Considered one of the 100 safest banks in the US, it is also a mutual which means it is the next best thing to a credit union.

Despite its appearance, it is as up to date as any bank.

I went in to use their ATM. As we were leaving Rick snapped a photo of the lobby.

We stopped to take a photo outside and a man ran up to us. He was from the bank.He didn't think we were potential robbers but was worried about the photo we'd taken and the privacy of the clients.

Once he saw the photos he declined Rick's offer to delete the photos.

He shared the story of the bank's Tiffany chandelier.  It was brown, he said. However when the lobby was renovated, and it was being polished, they discovered it wasn't brown at all but had beautiful colors. Decades of client and staff smoking had encrusted nicotine on it hiding its beauty.

Rick would have loved to go back and take the photo of the chandelier, but decided it was better not to.
