A Square Sun

During the summer, we often get up in the middle of the night to take the dog to the beach and see the sun rise.

In October, the sun rises at a decent hour. The dog woke at his normal time, and we thought we might take him to the beach. Because it was bright, we thought we'd missed the sunrise. In fact, we weren't even trying to see it, laughing at our selves for stressing in the summer to make the sunrise and not even trying to see it when we get up like any morning.

WOW!

Just as we left the car in the parking and as we were walking down to the path to the water, the sun decided to greet us by peeking above the horizon. Sadly our cameras didn't capture the orange, but the pink clouds are accurate. For all the sunrises we've seen, I've never seen the sun shaped as a square.

What a gift.

Sherlock didn't notice. He was too busy running zoomies, trotting along side the musical waves making sure not a toenail touched the water and trying to dig his way to Brazil.

When we turned our back to the water we could see the grasses of the nature preserve and the mountains. During the summer the posts marking the boundaries from beach goers were almost hidden with snails. This morning, there were far less (or is it fewer?). In the summer the snails hid most of the wood on all the posts. I suspected there was a snail for every person in Beijing and Tokyo.

The temporary restaurants, beach chairs, rental boats and life guard stations have all been put away since last summer leaving a pristine natural scene.

There is one exception. The box which contains a plastic bag for any waste found on the beach.

As we walked back to the car, we could hear a bird singing its heart out.

The high rises and condos along the Med are not for us. Give us the natural beauty and square suns.
