The prophesy

We couldn't be in Ireland without checking out music at an Irish Pub.

We stumbled on a CD launch at Moloney's, owned by one of the Chieftans, whose music I had listened to, not often, but sometimes.

The launch was by two local singers and the CD was Old Achill Line, about the railroad that ran between Westport and Achill.

In the 17th century Brian Rua prophisized that carriages on wheels with smoke and fire would come to Achill and that the first and last would carry home the dead.

In 1894 the first train carried the bodies of 34 young Achill people drowned in a boating accident in Cleu Bay as they were on their way to Scotland.

On. Sept. 16, 1937 10 bodies, migrants to Scotland  killed in a fire. The railroad, which had been disactivated, was used to bring the bodies home.

The old tracks no longer exist but their bed has been turned into the Greenway where we walk Rooby each night.

We talked with one of the musicians, listened to them sing not only songs from the CD but Christmas Carols.
